| ‘THE DUNGEON’ - Pingle Bag I |

This unique bag - the first of seven in our new ‘Pingle Bag’ collection - is named after an historic, local field. ‘The Dungeon’, an evocative moniker, refers to its proximity to ‘Dungeon Woods’: a deep, sylvan gorge and haven for wildlife.

With the atmosphere of the place in mind, we constructed the bag from darker remnants of 1800s hemp. The front panel, in tobacco-coloured herringbone, is distinguished by a faded ‘1906’ and ‘No. 5’. It also bears our signature - a block-printed earthbound and celestial plough - which integrates naturally. A peasant patch, an original mend and a corner panel of aged hemp complete the composition. The bag’s rear, a mosaic of hemp shards and patches, is embellished with original type, aptly Gothic in style.

As with all our ‘Pingle Bags’, we’ve adorned it with a field-found relic befitting its name: in this instance, an old iron key - the sort you’d imagine hanging off a gaoler’s belt - unearthed by a local metal detectorist.

The bag’s other features include a heavy duty, antiqued brass zip; Irish linen lining in brown and blue stripes; an internal patch pocket; and an adjustable leather strap, repurposed from an old belt. The strap comes with its original housing and elegant brass hardware, and we’ve revived it with a traditional blend of wax, tallow, and oil.
