| ‘DING DONG’ - Pingle Bag II |

This bag - like the others in our new ‘Pingle Bag’ collection - is a smaller, more bijou version of the ‘Field Bags’ we created last year.

We’ve ‘christened’ it ‘Ding Dong’. Its delightful, onomatopoeic name relates to a field located close to a church or chapel, within earshot of the belfry; it also denotes land set aside for the parish bell-ringer.

The bag is crafted from remnants of C19th grain sacks in lovely, natural hues. Fortuitously, one of the sacks was stencilled with a word containing the fragment ‘ding’, which we have placed on the bag’s front. Our signature - a block-printed earthbound and celestial plough - provides further ornamentation, integrating seamlessly.

The bag’s face is enhanced by two small, pale corner pieces that contrast with the larger, tobacco herringbone panel, while an original peasant mend adds a touch of character. The reverse is equally evocative: a patchwork of antique hemp remnants in natural tones. On the largest panel, the suggestion of an original stencilled name sits above the date 1886, underscored by a pastoral flourish.

As with all our ‘Pingle Bags’, a field-found relic befitting the bag’s name has been added. ‘Ding Dong’ is thus furnished with an ancient crotal bell, medieval in origin and unearthed locally. It is attached to the bag’s antiqued brass zip.

Other features include an Irish linen lining in brown and blue stripes; an internal patch pocket; and an adjustable, double-holed leather strap, repurposed from an old military belt. It retains its original housing and brass hardware, and has been revived with a traditional blend of wax, tallow, and oil.
