This highly individual, C19th English library chair is traditionally upholstered in our 'Lyme Bay' block-printed linen. It boasts a deep, buttoned seat, buttoned arms and a buttoned back incorporating a piped, oval panel containing a charming 'Ship' vignette. Upholstered using French horsehair, hessian, calico and tacks, the piece has a lovely, firm finish. The cloth's neutral colour provides good contrast to the Deep blue of the block print, and the chair's mahogany legs (the front two of which are turned) are nicely patinated.
Our 'Lyme Bay' design (married in this instance with our 'Ship in a Battle' design) celebrates the local seascape - sometimes dramatic, sometimes serene, often treacherous. Closely inspect this textile, and you'll see thousands of individually cut marks which lend it a woven appearance. Like Lyme Bay (or 'Dead Man's Bay' as it used to be called), the design isn't what it seems on the surface.
This hand-crafted piece is looking for a true English eccentric!
