This early C20th machinist's chair has been gently restored and upholstered in linen. The textile was block-printed by hand in our West Dorset workshop, and the design is 'Lyme Bay'. The colour - Blue grey - is informed by the Lias flagstones found in some local, historic houses. The chair's riveted and gusseted metal frame boasts graceful lines and an attractive patina. All upholstery filling (on the seat and back rest) is done in horsehair and calico. This piece is highly collectible.
Our 'Lyme Bay' block print celebrates the local seascape - sometimes dramatic, sometimes serene, often treacherous. Closely inspect a textile printed with this block, and you'll see thousands of individually cut marks which lend it a woven appearance. Like Lyme Bay (or 'Dead Man's Bay' as it used to be called), the design isn't what it seems on the surface.
